Not to sound like Andy Rooney, but do you know what I can’t stand?
I don’t want to sound like a grumpy old man, but I can’t stand when people play their music so loud that even when my windows are UP I can hear the music through it. It’s so loud that when you look out the window the car that the music is coming from is halfway down the road to the next block. It’s the worst kind of music you can imagine. It’s Hip-Pop. Not to be confused with HIP-HOP! I know Hip-Hop. I grew up with REAL Hip-Hop like: A Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, Del tha Funky Homosapien, Diamond D, Run DMC, etc. The stuff that is PASSED OFF AS Hip-Hop is nothing but a bunch of lame ass beats with so much negativity that even electrons revolving around protons and electrons are like what fucking quantum universe is THIS from?
I know it’s a holiday weekend. I know many people have the day off tomorrow. I know I do, but then again I’m courteous; I think of other people. I think about the person who has to wake up at 4:00 AM every morning to clean up some other person’s crap. Or the person that wakes up and has to take car of an elderly person… or whatever the story could be. The fact is people still work…even on holidays. Not everyone had today off or even tomorrow off.
So I called 311, (NYC’s Non-Emergency Hotline). Within 5 minutes of my call the noise stopped INSTANTLY.
I just want to emphasize that I am in no way a HATER. I would never tell someone to NOT listen to their music or express themselves in a different capacity other than what they like. I do however draw the line somewhere.
I suppose the litmus test is if I can close my window and STILL hear your music…I’m definitely going to call someone about it.
Op Ed: The Fall of The Green Persian Rug (Latest Developments in Iran)

I know to most of my readers that what I am about to write about will seem slightly out of place. I write mostly about Art, Apple products or software, and stuff.
I do have opinions about Politics and Religion as well. (I know…I know I am about to open a can of worms, but I think it is important to gain some perspective.)
Unless you have been living under a rock somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with no access to the Internet, you have heard about the absolute chaos taking place in Tehran, Iran. Young people and old people alike are taking to the streets to protest the current regime’s attempt to keep control of the government, by any and all means necessary.
Does it surprise me that the elections were possibly rigged? No. Ahmadinejad or as many Bloggers lovingly called him, “A MAD DINNER JACKET”, has a long history of anti-Semetic, anti-West tirades and bellicose that it really doesn’t surprise me one bit.
Do I feel that the protests will bring down the mad Mullahs and the single largest funder and supplier of international terrorism? Possibly. It all depends on how long and far the Iranian/Persian people are willing to take this.
Are they truly ready to destroy the current face of Iran and what it has come to represent to the World since 1979? I sure as hell hope so.
If the Iranian government comes crushing down completely there is a real opportunity (and my personal hope) that international Islamic terrorism could possibly turn the corner in the World’s favor towards real peace.
For a long time I have always thought that the only way to end terrorism was to search it out and destroy it. To a large extent my opinion still remains the same, however, with age comes perspective and insight. What has changed is not only do we have to change how we view terrorism, but also how the terrorist views us. I know it sounds kind of mambi-pambi…let’s all be friends YEAH! kind of talk, but hear me out.
We need to gain perspective of these organizations and why they view us the way they do.
I mean think about it…why would someone hate us or dislike us so much that they would spend a good part of their time and energy into destroying everything we have built up?
Well…did you think about it? Did you go to the mirror and look at yourself and wonder why someone would hate you for just being you?
I used think that people loved us because we were American…but something happened along the way and that something was Capitalism out of control and the resentment of the West for colonizing over half the World. I still believe that to a certain degree, but I think it has become almost institutional now, where it’s hip to think like this because it’s been ingrained for so long.
Not to contradict myself (which I do from time to time to be fair), but I also see that people really do want to believe in America. Hey people still keep coming here right? We have to be doing SOMETHING right? lol
Of course there are inherent flaws with any Democracy…(i.e. – Hitler was elected to power remember?) There will be flaws in ANY type of system where Humans and emotions are involved.
Would you like to know what is absolutely incredible?
What is on the side of the Iranian/Persian people is that they have modern technology on their side. Most people in this country think Iran is just another backward Middle East Muslim country that breeds terrorism and terrorists. Furthest thing from the truth.
Iranian/Persian people are some of the proudest and most intelligent people on the planet. They have one of the oldest recorded cultures. Their wealth of history and knowledge inspires and intrigues me.
But what is the connection to now?
Twitter and reasonable facsimiles of it are the major unsung heroes of this current struggle happening in front of our eyes. From a statistic that I read not too long ago is that 70% of the population of Iran is 30 years of age and younger. That is a HUGE percentage of pissed off and repressed youth that wants to be free to think and engage the rest of the World. Many if not most of the youth in Iran are web savvy just like America, UK, France, etc…
When the Islamic Revolution happened in 1979, people wanted change. Some thought that with this religious structure, Persian culture can once again flourish without the influence of former colonialist power or influence, (i.e. – The Shah) What they got was a living hell. Some would argue that Modern Iran is “not that bad”.
Why would someone want to qualify their country as, “not that bad”? Shouldn’t you want to say, “Yes! You are free to be want you want and think freely.”
Call me a bleeding heart liberal or whatever pejorative explicative you want, but I love the fact that I am able to wake up and think what, when, where, how and why is everything to me.
Everyone deserves the right to choose their own destiny.
Let the Iranian/Persians do the same.
Thank you Twitter and all other Social Media for broadcasting the voices of freedom and humanity.
It is imperative that we all recognize what is happening right now, which is the true awakening of a cultural giant.
If/when Iran becomes a true democracy (not an American puppet government), the knowledge that will come from this country will astound the World.
Just like in the Soviet Union in 1991…the Iron Curtain fell, so shall the Green Persian Rug in 2009.
