New Video: One Infinite Loophole II

leave a comment »

Just finished the sequel to my short film / video posted a couple of weeks ago: One Infinite Loophole. This is called One Infinite Loophole II.

Check it out!

Nothing like a good, independent short film to make your day.

Also there is nothing else out there like Captain Hazel Murphy that would make you want to jump off a 50 story building because he’s that cute.

(well…maybe not a 50 story building. Possibly a 35 story building instead. That seems more realistic.) heh.

New film preview for [ Tron: Legacy ] just came out. (2010) HD Trailer

leave a comment »

Has anyone seen this yet? OMFG! This looks INSANE!

New Tron Preview

New Tron Preview

Tron was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. I mean it. Whenever that movie was on TV, I would just watch it. (even if it was halfway through or just about finished. I remember playing the video game in the arcades. Still think that is one of the best all around games there ever was.

There are moments in everyone’s life growing up that certain things influence you. For me a few off the top of my head have been: (in no particular order…)

1. Watchmen (Graphic Novel)
2. Tron (Motion Picture + Game)
3. Transformers (Cartoon + Toys)
4. Caddyshack (Motion Picture)
5. Gleaming The Cube (Motion Picture) I know…Christian Slater at his best (which isn’t saying much…j/k)
5. Just about every aspect of the night sky. Even beyond the night. Even at a young age I always wondered what was beyond the beyond. The place where even nothingness has a certain gravity and mass. Blah, Blah, Blah…

What can I say…I was a freakin’ odd kid, which was a good thing. Does a normal 8-11 year old think about gravity and physics and theorize about the universe? I think the ones that become great minds do. heh.

Oh so what was I saying? lol

So yes…Tron has a deep meaning to me and I really hope this film gives me the same meaning or more (with age and perspective on my side).

BTW…the director, Joseph Kosinski, is going to remake another favorite and sci-fi film cult classic, Logan’s Run, which starred Michael York. When I heard the news on that, I almost fell over in convulsions. (well maybe not REAL convolutions…) If you haven’t seen either film, then you’re a moron…lol just kidding…

Go to netflix or your local video store and rent these flicks.

Your life will change. Mine did.

iPhone App Review: Night Vision (Developed by: Kirill Satchkov) Price: $0.99

Application: Night Vision
Category: Photography
Released: February 19th, 2009
Size: 0.8 MB
Seller: Kirill Satchkov
Website: http://www.myspace.com/NightVision_App

Most Recent Version: 2.3

Price: $0.99

A.T.D.o.N. Rating: 3.5 out of 5

A.T.D.o.N. Rating: 3.5 out of 5

The Breakdown:

Night Vision is a specialized photography app that gives the iPhone the ability to take photos with very little light. The small amount of light that does enter the digital lens becomes amplified, thus creating an image based upon the parameters of various spectrums. There are 4 different modes you can use: Night Vision Mode, Heat Mode, Predator Mode , and Grey Scale Mode.

Night Vision Mode: Off

Although in theory this sounds awesome, the result is just about satisfactory. Don’t get me wrong, this app has huge potential, but there are somethings that bug the crap out of me. Here is a short list:

1. The app does NOT work in real-time, meaning that you will NOT be able to view the image on the screen until you click the shutter and then click the button again to start the processing of the image. (The same goes for all 4 modes.)

2. You can’t control the level of “processing” that the app does. There should be an option somewhere to allow you to choose the amount of light saturation that you want in the photo.

3. Only 4 modes? Why are we not allowed to choose the colors we want in the photos. There should be a CUSTOM mode for this app. You can choose which colors can be the light source. The amount of colors. Night Vision is always green. Why can’t we choose a purple Night Vision color or blue. (I know that green is best for results, but still…the option to do so is just as important.)

4. There isn’t an online community where people can post these shots and share or comment on. This app doesn’t really connect with it’s audience at all. It’s kind of like…ok…I’m an app that does this…so pay me now…and here you go…goodbye.

The Pros: Cool and unique photos using little light. Only $0.99.

The Cons: Photos are processed and not in real time. No control of quality or quantity of image processing. No customization mode for user experimentation. No sense of community or desire to want to improve app. No actual website for the developer either. Kind of skeevy to have JUST a MySpace page for an Apple iPhone app. BIZARRO!

The Close: There are a few good things and many bad things about this app. Overall I would suggest holding off on buying this app until some sort of customization is implemented. The community aspect is not vital to the actual photos themselves, however it will help the “branding” and life of the app. Now that the iPhone 3G S with video is out, the developer should program this app to process video the same way photos SHOULD be processed, only in real-time. (I gaurantee you Mr. Satchkov that if you were able to do this with all 4 modes your app would be on the TOP SELLERS list forever. Seriously.)

And You Thought the iPhone Couldn’t Get Any Better…Until…

leave a comment »

Until now…

I am always amazed by real ingenuity and the spirit of creativity? I thought that I had seen it all.

You know something, I consider myself an aficionado on all things iPhone and Apple, but this has completely blown my mind away. I always try to find the odd things out there that no one is really paying attention to. This one takes the ticket as one of the strangest and innovative concept yet for the iPhone. Is the suspense too much to handle already? lol

The bizarre device for the phone is not a downloadable game or app from iTunes App Store, or a cool new protective case in chartreuse or puce (which reminds me…what color is puce? Does it even exist? lol). No, it is not another portable charger for the iPhone. Nor is it some stupid stand for your iPhone for the table. (Yeah, like anyone REALLY ever wants to watch a WHOLE movie on an iPhone and it has to be on a table.)

Give up?

Well, feast your iPhonic lusty eyes on these. Your life will never be the same. heh.

Stumbled upon the website, [ http://www.usbfever.com ] late yesterday afternoon and was floored by this and similar lens that you can actually magnetically stick on front of the camera lens of your iPhone. I cannot call this a review for the sheer virtue that I physically have not been able to use this lens. If you were wondering, this isn’t the ONLY lens that USBFEVER sells. There are a bunch of them.

Feeling compelled, I just had to post and share these images and lens with all of you.

I am sure most of you will probably say that there is an APP already that can digitally recreate any of these lens effects in the iPhone itself. True, but imagine the real “huh?” factor you could have at a party? It’ll drive people nuts.

I’ll be putting in an order for 1 of these bad boys to test it out and see what the experience is like. My review will follow shortly after.

Game Story Summary: It’s like an untold chapter out of Spartan history. You play King Argos, the King of Sparta and you are marooned on an unknown island and the only way back is doing what you were born to do. KICK SOME SERIOUS ASS AND NOT EVEN CALL THEIR MOTHER THE NEXT MORNING! You must fight your way back to Sparta through different levels of monsters and mayhem. Don’t become a dead relic of mythology. It’s kill or be killed.

My Thoughts:

This past Friday I downloaded this game after I updated my iPhone to the new 3.0 software. I honestly didn’t know what to expect when purchasing the game. I usually DON’T read other reviews of games, as I don’t want my opinion to be influenced in any capacity or way. After a short install waiting period the game finally loaded up. The opening credits were something out of a movie. I couldn’t believe the quality of detail and the extent that Gameloft went to to make it look the way it does. Kudos gentlemen!

On to the actually game and not surface aesthetics…

The game. Wow, where to start. I think I would start by saying that the virtual controls of the game are the best in it’s class. Other games use a similar concept, but Gameloft has just about done it perfectly. The game play is out of this world and leap years ahead of any other game out there. (You can quote me on that one Gameloft! :D ) Seriously, whoever are the wiz-kids over at Gameloft deserve the Nobel Peace Prize for iPhone Video Games. lol I could not put this game down. So much so, that my wife began to “remind” me, (I’ll gently put it.) to wash up and get to bed. I felt like I was a kid again playing “Double Dragon” or something. Very fun. Very, VERY affordable for the quality of the product.

The Breakdown:

The Pros:Gameplay, Gameplay, Gameplay! Impressive graphics, Smart storyline, oh did I mention the best part? The price? $0.99!!! How can you possibly go wrong?

The Cons:Can be a bit glitchy at times. Needs more levels, options, weapons, special movies, monsters, etc. In other words: extrapolate on the positive aspects and develop the game a bit further or possibly create a bad ass sequel.

The Close:If I could rate this game 6 out of 5 I would. Ahh… screw it. I’ll give it a 6/5 rating. ******

iPhone App Review: ShakeItPhoto (Developed by: Nick Campbell) Price: $0.99

To say that I am pleased with this app would be an understatement. I have not stopped using the app since I downloaded it the blasted thing the other day. I have used many, many good and decent photo apps for the iPhone, but this one is quite extraordinary. Let me give you an idea of how awesome it is and maybe you’ll heed my advice to purchase this gem.

1. K.I.S.S. – No not the glam-rock band, but the clever decision by Mr. Campbell to Keep It Simple Stupid. As soon as you activate the app, it does one thing and one thing only…just like a polaroid. You point-click-shoot-and wait.

2. Appreciation – In this age of INSTANT, INSTANT gratification…Polaroids seem to take TOO long for some, but for Generation X and older…we can appreciate those short moments in between photos. On a psychological level…this is app does just that: it will help you reconnect with your subjects that you are taking photos of. It doesn’t matter whether that subject is a human, a feline, a canine, an object or whatever. The important thing is that it allows the photographer to engage with his/her subject with that moment in time to anticipate and spark that thought of what it might look like.

3. Quality – It astounds me how incredibly “Polaroid-esque” the photos truly look and feel. It even makes the same noise as a Polaroid camera. If you have ever had the pleasure of seeing or holding a REAL Polaroid. I think I just dated myself on that one…lol (Kodak has since unfortunately ended production…The Last Polaroid Shipment sniff, sniff), but the colors, exposure, contrast, everything seems so dead-on. Mr. Campbell definitely did his homework before releasing this app. Kudos to you Mr. Campbell! Can’t wait to see what is the next camera type you’ll master for the iPhone.

Examples:

Murphy Close-Up Sky/Screen Abstract Sand/Sheet Abstract Uninvited Guest in the Spotlight

The Breakdown:

The Pros: Incredibly vivid photos that parallel Polaroid’s history and uniqueness, ease of use, awesome way to start a conversation at a party. :D

The Cons: The only 2 things I would want to see changed is possibly more border shapes (ie – Landscape, circle, triangle, etc… (although it might take away from the authenticity of it all, but just a thought.) and resolution choices.

The Close: I strongly suggest you download this app immediately and start enjoying photos again. It’s only $0.99. How can you go wrong. I mean really. This app is worth it and then some.
